Title Our Authors

Thank You For Your Service

By Lee A. Nelson

TYFOS

The military shouted

and scorned and

beat and dismantled

and built into

me

all that I've managed

to become

and it could care less

for right or wrong.

It just does

what it did

and will do again

for any "serviceable"

face

it can find.

What the military does

heinously

it does best

and that goes for everything

even war never touches

as our country

never ceases and desists

war.

It's comical to know

the no ends

to which this can mean.

I'm thanked for my

"service"

and to me

my debt is till my death.

We both got what we needed.

I walked when I realized

there's no mentors left

when the trail arrived

to everyone like me

looking for what's next

other than death

That place where the wise men

were me in ten years

handing a torch

to the next

schlep.

I walked away

with all they'd

promised

everything I'd earned

and here I am.

As you bury

the patriots you raise

your rapturous everything

that defines you

the cored heart of your

most purposed joys

and terminated

immortalities

Thank me

for that.
